And a Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers and grandmothers and virtual mothers out there today!
I muted the background on this image by doing the following:
1. Add a Hue and Saturation adjustment layer above the background layer.
2. Move the Saturation slider toward the left to de-saturate the colors.
3. Paint with black on the adjustment layer mask to bring back the pink and green in the rose. Use a large soft brush with the opacity at 75%.
4. Add a vignette to darken the edges.
Here’s the original with the more colorful background:

How beautiful…love the processing. It really makes the rose more dimensional w/ the desaturated background!
I thought the Rose was pretty awesome before the processing… but am wowed by the post-processing. I can seen that I need to go back to start using Layers in PSE again.
Happy Mother’s Day to you!
Beautiful rose picture! I love the way you changed the background so it wasn’t as distracting. Nice job.
I love how you worked with this. The rose is lovely, but in the original, it doesn’t stand out. Your processing brought out all its details an invites the eye to linger on it to absorb its beauty.
Both are very beautiful. I do like that on that has been desaturated. Great details on your rose.
Holy Cow – they are both beautiful but the AFTER is breathtaking – really – I love it!!!!!!!! Holy Toledo, Batman. It is …just….wow!
Your processing is beautiful – it reminds me of why I need to make some time to learn my Photoshop Elements program.
I am amazed at how your processing changed the image and focuses the attention on the main rose. Great way to work this…
