What do you do at the laundromat while waiting for the comforters to wash? Take a 5-exposure HDR, of course.
To create this photo, I did the following:
1. Placed the compact camera on a table. Then took 5 exposures at -2, -1, 0, +1, +2.
2. Processed the photos in Photomatix Pro to create an HDR image.
3. Opened the HDR image in Photoshop Elements and duplicated it on a new layer.
4. Applied a Topaz Adjust filter to the duplicate (Portrait Smooth). Set the Blend Mode of this layer to Soft Light at 50% opacity.
5. Pressed Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E to create a merged copy of all layers on a new layer.
6. Added a vignette to the merged copy.
I find that most of my HDR images are enhanced by some extra processing in Photoshop Elements.

Now that is a great way to pass time…and what an awesome HDR…who would have thought a laundromat would have produced such a cool image…love the circles!
Great composition, circles and HDR Karen!!
I will stop thinking I over process my stuff, but when I do so I blow it big time, yours is all plus plus plus. The look ends up far from the humdrum that must be the case in a laundramat. Well Done.
Love the look of the laundry mat now. I always wondered what the process was for HDR, thanks for explaining .
I love this. There’s an unreal feeling about it, something that’s amost ominous despite the bright colors, maybe because all the surfaces seem to glow and the fact that, though these are all machines that are lit up as if they were being used, there are no people in sight.
This is so great. I love the colors and the repeating patterns that the circles make. This is a prize winner for sure.
Clara nailed it – this is a prize winner! I love the imagery here – the repeat circles, the pattern in the floor, the lighting and shiny washers and the colorful background created by the “entertainment” in the back. What a super image!
Who thought a laundromat could be presented in such an appealing way? Another fine processing job.
beautiful processing…it has a 1950′s feel to it!
This image has such a utilitarian feel to it until your eye makes it to the back wall…then WAM….the vending machines are smackgob in your eye. I think that was the purpose of the bright lights~to grab the attention.
Amazing HDR work. You make this room look…inviting. How strange..haha. Much like Clara, you do a great job of taking the mundane and making it jump off the page. I hope to get there someday. Super job.
Certainly the most inviting laundromat I’ve ever seen. Great image and so wel lprocessed.
Wow, excellent! I really love what you did with this…..
